M.C. Nagel
focus:
M. C. Nagel’s work explores the connection of humanity to nature, history, the human condition. She hopes to provoke a reaction through visual symbolism, humor, surprise, incongruity. “If a viewer of my work pauses to further study a piece, laughs, is startled or begins making comments to themselves, I feel I have successfully used visual vocabulary,” says Nagel.
M. C.’s training was achieved when most are thinking ”retirement”. She studied under many noteworthy professor/artists at Cleveland State University: Nevadomi, Schneider, Mauersburger. She came to art through landscape design-- Nagel started a landscape design firm whose work has appeared in national and local publications. Her design work has received Beautification of America Awards. She co-authored Ohio Master Gardener Training Manual and wrote for several professional green publications. (Please don’t ask her about those troublesome bushes in your yard).
M.C. Nagel is part of an artists’ collective at The Screw Factory, 13000 Athens Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio, Studio 264C. For the past 8 years she has participated in seasonal shows at the collective, called the Screw Factory Artists Open Studio. Nagel also teaches workshops and classes for adults and children.
